Where to find a furnished apartment in Cameroon, beyond Airbnb and Booking
Airbnb and Booking barely list anything in Cameroon. Here is where to actually find a furnished place in Douala or Yaoundé, and how to book without getting scammed.

If you have ever looked for a furnished apartment in Douala or Yaoundé on Airbnb or Booking, you saw the problem fast: there is almost nothing. Two or three listings, often the same ones, rarely up to date. The truth is that most furnished places in Cameroon are simply not on those platforms. So where do people actually look? Here are the options that work here, and what each one is really worth.
Facebook and WhatsApp groups
This is where everyone looks first. Groups like "Locations meublées Douala" or "Appartements à louer Yaoundé" are full of listings posted by owners and brokers, at all hours. The upside is simple: volume. You find everything, in every neighborhood, at every price. The catch is that nothing is checked. The same photos show up on several different listings, the price you are quoted is not always the real one, and some "agents" ask for a viewing fee before they even show you the place, then disappear. Plenty of people do find something on Facebook. But plenty also get scammed, especially those searching from abroad who pay before seeing.
Classified ad sites
Keur Immo, Geloka, Expat.com and others also list places. They are more practical than Facebook for filtering by city or neighborhood, and some show clear prices. But you hit the same core problem: very little verification. A listing can be months old, or already rented. You spend a lot of time calling numbers that no longer answer.
Neighborhood brokers
A broker knows the ground better than any website. He knows which building in Bonapriso has a free studio before it shows up anywhere. If you find someone serious, it is a real shortcut. The problem is that the quality depends entirely on the person. Commissions vary, some inflate prices, and you have no recourse if things go wrong.
Verified platforms like KasaStay
This is where KasaStay does things differently. The point is not to have the most listings, but listings you can actually trust. Hosts go through identity verification, the places are checked, and you pay the way you want: Mobile Money, an international card if you are booking from abroad, or cash at one of our offices if you would rather pay in person. And if something goes wrong, there is a real support team on the other side.
Let us be honest about the trade-off: you will see fewer listings than in a Facebook group with ten thousand members. But the ones you see have been verified, the photos match the real place, and nobody asks you for a shady "viewing fee". For someone booking from a distance, or simply tired of wasting time on ghost listings, that is what matters.
The real question
In the end, the right question is not "where are there the most listings". It is "where can I book without getting burned". Facebook and brokers give you volume but little safety. A verified platform gives you fewer choices but far less risk. It is up to you to decide what matters most for your situation. If you want to see what already-verified places in Douala, Yaoundé and beyond look like, that is exactly what we do at KasaStay.
Frequently asked questions
- Why do Airbnb and Booking have so few listings in Cameroon?
- Most Cameroonian owners and hosts do not use Airbnb or Booking. They post on Facebook, WhatsApp and classifieds, or work with brokers. So those two platforms only show a small slice of what is really available in Douala or Yaoundé.
- Where can I look for a furnished place in Cameroon?
- The main options are Facebook and WhatsApp groups (lots of choice but nothing checked), classified ad sites, neighborhood brokers, and verified platforms like KasaStay. Each has its upside. The real test is where you can book without the risk of a scam.
- How do I avoid scams while searching for a furnished place?
- Never pay in full before seeing the place, be wary of prices that are too low and of viewing fees asked in advance, and prefer a payment that leaves a trace. On a verified platform the places are checked, and you can even pay cash at an office, which removes the risk of a fake listing.
- How do I pay on KasaStay?
- You can pay by Mobile Money (MTN MoMo and Orange Money), by international card if you are abroad, or in cash at one of our offices if you would rather pay in person.
